šæš They’re back! After a short summer holiday, our beloved lawn-mowing sheep, āThe Groundskeeper,ā and her trusty Deputies, Shaun and Flymo, along with their friendly flock of 25, have returned to the green fields of our site in Launton to keep the grass and weeds at bay. By avoiding traditional fuel-based mowers, weāve embraced a sustainable path, having these 25 adorable sheep to keep things trim and tidy.
š At Greencore, it’s not just about construction, it’s about harmony with nature. We’re committed to sustainable solutions in every step of our journey toward a greener future. šæš
Letās give a warm welcome back to our baa-rrilliant grounds team!
This milestone wouldn’t be possible without the incredible collaboration of SNRG, Charlie Luxton Design, Charlie Luxton, The Community Land Trust and many more.
Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this transformative project. šæ
Greencore Homes has acquired another site. Our CEO, Jon Di-Stefano said “We are delighted to have purchased this site in Launton which is less than two miles from our office and factory in Bicester. We will be able to showcase our Climate Positive homes on our doorstep and make low carbon living accessible to even more people. Our thanks to both Richborough Estates and Savills who have been fantastic to work alongside and we look forward to more of the same in the future.”
Michael Gove, Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities visited our multi-award winning development Springfield Meadows, in Southmoor, Oxfordshire last week. He was joined by the local MP,Ā David Johnston OBE. The development of 25 climate positive homes, is built to be better than net-zero in terms of embodied carbon and aims to be net-zero energy in use.
Michael Gove said āWe want beautiful, well designed, and greener neighbourhoods and the community Iāve seen in Springfield Meadows is something we wish to replicate right across the country. By modernising the planning system, our reforms will create more places people are proud to call home.ā
Jon Di-Stefano, Greencoreās CEO, commented, āWe were delighted to welcome both Michael Gove and David Johnston to our Springfield Meadows development. Itās exceptionally pleasing to have the government taking such a keen interest in our climate positive homes. The structure of a typical Greencore home is better than net zero in terms of embodied carbon, they are also highly energy efficient and can generate more energy than they use.ā
Thank you toĀ The Telegraph, and to Homebuilding & Renovating Magazine for awarding Greencore with āBest Custom Build Site 2022ā in their āHome Of The Yearā Award.
Januaryās edition of Homebuilding & Renovating Magazine (available now) has a fantastic 8 page spread of Springfield Meadows as well as other great projects that won in the different categories. We are very proud to have won this national award which after being shortlisted by judges, was chosen by the readers!
āWhat really struck me about this project when I visited the site was the companyās genuine commitment and enthusiasm to building highly sustainable homes, some of which are carbon negative, which is exciting and trailblazing in equal measure,ā says judge Michelle Guy. āNot only should homeowners take note of this remarkable site, but housing developers too ā this project illustrates how building sustainably can be done. It sets the blueprint for building eco homes now, and in the future.ā
Please feel free to share this with colleagues, relatives, friends, and anyone else who you think might be interested!
Springfield Meadows is a Climate Positive development of 16 private homes and 9 affordable. All 25 are built to the same Passivhaus thermal performance standards. We think Springfield Meadows is the most sustainable development in the country because weāve combined a few things that havenāt been done together before.
ā Better than zero embodied carbon
ā Net-zero energy in use
ā One Planet LivingĀ® Global Leadership by Bioregional
ā Berkshire, Buckinghamshire & Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust (BBOWT) partnership
ā Elimination of gas utilities to create an all-electric development and eliminate fossil fuels.

ā To achieve better than zero embodied carbon, we build houses that lock-up more carbon than they emit and generate more energy than they use.
We call this Climate Positive. In order to lock up more carbon than we emit, we build with bio-based materials instead of bricks & block. We used cross laminated timber supplied by Stora Enso. We also aim to minimise the use of cement, steel & other high energy materials.
We still think itās the most sustainable development in the country and we are so proud to have been shortlisted for this National Award.
Springfield Meadows, the UKās leading sustainable housing development, has been awarded Timber Frame Project of the Year and Custom and Self-Build Project of the Year at theĀ Structural Timber Awards. The site consists of 25 beautiful homes, including nine managed by Sovereign Housing Association and is a fully Climate Positive development, with net-zero energy and better-than-zero carbon.
In winning the two awards, presented to Ian Pritchett by Mark Durden Smith, the eco housing development beat four other projects shortlisted for each of the titles. Shortlisted contenders for the title were judged on their use of timber throughout the development, how the homes achieved the visions of its prospective buyers, and the ways in which the team worked to achieve a seamless, defect-free project. Ian Pritchett, Managing Director of Greencore Construction, collected the prize, which was judged by a panel including members of the Structural Timber Association and the New Model Institute for Technology and Engineering.
James Pritchett of Greencore Construction said: āWe are thrilled to have won two of the three awards we were shortlisted for at the Structural Timber Awards. It closely follows our win at the OxProp Awards, where we were awarded Best Residential Development in Oxfordshire.
22 of the sustainable homes at Springfield Meadows are now sold with two under offer and just one available for sale. The homes, which are all net-zero energy and have a better-than-zero carbon footprint, were developed using Greencoreās Biond system.
Biond is a closed timber framed panel that is insulated with lime-hemp and wood-fibre insulation. The external wall panels lock up 32kg of CO2e per m2 of wall, so its impact on the environment out-performs almost all other construction systems.
Early buyers at Springfield Meadows had the opportunity to custom-build the design of their home, including alternative floorplans, kitchens, bathrooms, and battery storage. The development is pioneering its fully-electric car club, which is available to residents and all the houses have triple glazed windows, PV panels, and are built to the Passivhaus energy standard.
Bioregional, the environmental charity,Ā has recognised the schemeās attributes, awarding it One Planet Global Leader status. The certificate champions a holistic approach to new-build developments, ensuring that they are sustainable, environmentally friendly, and landscape-led to respect existing nature in the area.
The Structural Timber Awards is a flagship industry event that rewards and celebrates excellence in response to the impact of climate change and the use of sustainable structural timber systems. The awards see exponential growth each year, as the industry progresses in its battle to reduce carbon emissions in the construction sector. Companies at the forefront of the industry enter to win the prestigious awards, with categories covering healthcare, social housing, engineering, and installation. It recognises the design and technology that makes these inspiring projects possible.
